The harsh saltwater environment had not been very kind to the old Catalina Bar Bridge in Trinity Bay North, Newfoundland and Labrador. You might say “She wasn’t lookin’ too good, b’y”.
When the time came to replace it, the project partners quickly opted for a long-lasting corrosion/abrasion-resistant Dur•A•Span Aluminum Box Culvert from AIL – just like so many other NL communities had done before them.

In this case, our Engineering Department collaborated with the consultant, Meridian Engineering, to ensure that the structure also provided enough high tide clearance for smaller fishing boats to pass through, while still maintaining the road grade as close to the original as possible.
AIL worked with the owner and consultant from the very preliminary stage through to completion. We understood the timeframe and budget and took the necessary steps to make sure everything was supplied within the required time and cost. The Dur-A-Span Box Culvert proved to be an economical solution with a quick delivery time.
“A major upgrade over the existing bridge”
“The Bar Bridge was a structure in need of replacement for quite some time. The aluminum box culvert solution provided by AIL was a major upgrade over the existing bridge in both function and aesthetics. We look forward to this bridge servicing our community for years to come.”
