The Sneena Road Overpass was being built for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to help reduce congestion and calm traffic on the busy stretch of Highway 97, between Kelowna and West Kelowna. The project team selected AIL’s MSE Retaining Wall System for the True Abutments for the new overpass.
Busy corridor, tight summer construction window
All eyes were on this project as it had to be built during the busiest summer period with lots of traffic on that corridor. However, our MSE Precast Panel Walls and the AIL team were more than ready for the challenge and the project outcome was very successful. Here’s how we did it…
Got started early, ready ahead of schedule
We worked with the contractor to obtain the order early over the winter months of 2014. This allowed us to finalize our design and give the green light to our suppliers to manufacture the components ahead of time so that we were ready to ship the product when needed.
Maintained a close collaborative approach
We worked closely with the owner’s representative, designers and contractors to ensure that everything was designed and manufactured to the proper specification. Before installation commenced, we had a thorough pre-construction meeting with all parties to make sure everything was covered off for a smooth job.
Good site supervision ensured a successful outcome
We provided some on-site assistance and worked with the contractor daily to make sure that everything was being built as per the plans. The project went along very well and the overpass was officially opened on December 17, 2014.
